Young Mariners ready for big Fulham test
South Shields’ Under-18s are ready for the biggest match of their young lives when they take on Fulham in the third round of the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday.
For the second successive season, the young Mariners have enjoyed a tremendous run in English football’s most prestigious youth knockout competition.
They have already gone one better than last year’s progression to the second round by reaching round three for the first time in the club’s history, brilliantly beating Gateshead, Carlisle City, North Shields, Harrogate Town, Morecambe and Hartlepool United along the way.
Wednesday’s match at Motspur Park will see Shields come up against an elite academy.
Fulham are top of the Barclays U18 Premier League ahead of the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and Arsenal, and have yet to lose in the league this season.
It is a huge challenge for the young Mariners but one they go into with great relish.
The winners of this tie will travel to Sheffield United or AFC Wimbledon in the fourth round.
The match is taking place at Motspur Park (KT3 6PT), with a 7pm kick-off.
Admission prices are £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
Disabled supporters should contact Charlotte Bellamy at email@example.com prior to kick-off. All admission will be paid at the gate at Motspur Park reception upon arrival.
