Whitehaven vs South Shields Preview

By Bob Wray

Shields make the longest trip of the league programme on Saturday to play Whitehaven in Cumbria, kick off at 3.00pm.

The bus departs at 9.30am from the County Hotel at Westoe for what will be the best part of a three hour journey.

The weather forecast is certainly mixed, but hopefully there will be no match problems.

Three points for Christmas would put a smile on the face of all travelling, so hopefully following last Saturday’s result, disappointment with the very late loss of two points can and will be made good.

Concentration by the defence and all being focused for as long as referees determine time added on to be to see the game out to a positive conclusion is required to avoid any further avoidable loss of points as then happened.

Hopefully, Stephen Ramsey can continue his return to the form we know he can produce, and his team-mates provide the opposition with a good display of entertaining, productive and winning football.

Whitehaven. HOME.

P11. W5. D1. L5. F19. A22. Total GD -19. Pts. 27. League table 15th.

Form. Last six games 10 points, form table 11th.

South Shields. AWAY.

P11. W3. D6. L2. F19. A19. Total GD -3. Pts. 32. League table 13th.

Form. Last six games seven points, form table 16th.

The result of the earlier season encounter between the sides at Peterlee was a 2-1 victory for the Mariners.

It is well noted and commented that of the total of 11 draws to date, too many of these if results had, could and maybe should in hindsight have been wins, and just how different the current league table would have looked.

This when one also considers that a total of eight points have been forthcoming from a possible 21 in the last seven games, which include one win.

That said, there is ground to make up for as high as possible placing in the table for the second half of the season, starting with three points against the ‘Haven’ to hopefully make for a happy bus on the journey home.

For any making the trip over independently, the postcode for the Focus Scaffolding Sports Complex, situated on Coach Road, is CA28 9DD, ground tel. 01946 69224.

South Shields’ next game is away to Birtley on Saturday, December 28th.
