Whickham vs South Shields Preview
By Daniel Prince
South Shields play their final away game of the season tomorrow (Thursday) as they travel to Whickham.
The Mariners have lost their last four fixtures, and remain 16th in Northern League Division Two.
It now appears unlikely they will be able to finish any higher in the table, while Whitehaven and Alnwick Town are both potentially within a win of leapfrogging the Mariners.
Jon King’s side still have pride to play for, though, and will be eager to end the season on a high note.
Tomorrow’s match will be a tough one, with Whickham sitting eighth in the table.
They have hit some good form of late, and beat Brandon United 4-1 on Tuesday.
When Shields met Whickham at Eden Lane in November, the match ended in a 1-1 draw, but since then, the sides appear to have gone in opposite directions.
The match, at Glebe Sports Ground, kicks off at 7.30pm.
