West Auckland game postponed
By Daniel Prince
Tonight’s Durham Challenge Cup match between South Shields and West Auckland Town has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The pitch at Peterlee’s Eden Lane ground was also unsuitable for play on Saturday, which led to the game between Shields and Ryton and Crawcrook Albion being called off.
Regrettably, the clash between the Mariners and West Auckland has now also fallen victim to the weather, with the pitch still in a similar condition to Saturday.
Three of Shields’ last four games have now been postponed, including the pre-Christmas trip to Whitehaven.
It is to be hoped that Jon King’s side will finally play their first game of 2014 on Saturday, when they travel to Northallerton Town for a league fixture.
Full details regarding the rearranged fixture against Northern League Division One high-fliers West Auckland will be released in due course.
