The club’s Under-16s side are celebrating after winning the prestigious County Cup.
The youngsters beat West Auckland Juniors 3-1 on Sunday at Durham FA.
Shields started the game excellently, and took the lead within a couple of minutes with a header from Aidan Heywood.
They dominated the remainder of the half, but could not find a second goal, partly down to very good defending from West Auckland as well as poor finishing.
The second half began in the same fashion as the first, with Shields dominating the early exchanges, and they deservedly went 2-0 up with a volley from Ewan Simpson.
The Mariners wrapped it up with a third from Ben Bayles after a very good move down the left-hand side.
West grabbed a deserved consolation after a good header from a free-kick into the box, which should have been dealt better with.
South Shields’ Under-16s have seven league games left this season, and a League Cup final on the 27th of this month at Russell Foster Centre, Newbottle, against a very good Consett side. All support will be greatly appreciated.
