Under-14s win league

South Shields Under-14s Raiders have completed the double after adding the Chase Holmes Youth League Premier League title to the Premier Division Cup they won two days ago.

The young Mariners launched a terrific comeback to beat Farringdon Detached Reds 3-2 after falling 2-0 behind.

The win sealed the team’s first-ever double, and adds to the success of the South Shields youth set-up, with the Under-16s in particular also impressing, having completed a treble of their own earlier this week.

The Under-14s had to work for their victory over Farringdon, though, and went in 1-0 behind at half-time.

Changes were made at the break, but the Raiders were caught cold at the start of the second half when the home side quickly doubled their lead.

Both sides were battling hard in windy conditions, but the Raiders showed superb belief to launch an incredible comeback.

Goals from Alex McBeth and James Hogg led to an exciting finish, and Leon McKeith scored the winner late in the half to ensure an excellent win for the champions.
