Youngsters will get the chance to become a part of South Shields FC on Saturday when the club’s development centre is kicked-off at Mortimer Community College, on Reading Road.

Last week, the club announced opportunities for young players, as well as coaches and teams, to join the club as it looks to expand its youth section.

The Mariners continue to welcome new and existing teams to the structure, with a host of benefits, detailed here.

As part of the junior plans, a weekly development centre – for children of all ages – is starting at Mortimer on Saturday between 12.30pm and 1.30pm, using the indoor facilities at the school.

It costs £3 per child to attend, and registration can be made on the day.

The club will also be looking to form some new junior teams from the players who attend, and who would like to do so. For any queries, please call 07947 480054.

South Shields Football Club is looking to expand its junior section, and would like to extend an open invite to players, coaches, parents and teams.

The club is looking for new development teams to join us now, with boys and girls of all ages welcome, as well as coaches.

Any existing teams who would be interested in coming under the SSFC banner would also be extremely welcome, with the club ready to cater for all.

All new teams will receive free kit, level 1 coaching courses for parents and training facilities, as well as the opportunity to work in a fun and friendly environment.

The club also plans to start a development centre for those aged between four and seven, which would be based at Mortimer Community College, on Reading Road, South Shields. It would be open on Saturdays between 12.30pm and 1.30pm, with the plan to start it as early as January 16.

The club already has a strong junior section, with teams from under-9s to under-18s level, but would now like as many youngsters as possible to have the opportunity to become part of the Mariners.

All interested children, parents and coaches can call 07947 480054 at any time or send an email to gary.crutwell@southshieldsfc.co.uk to register their interest.

We look forward to welcoming you on board!

The club’s junior teams enjoyed a share of the spotlight on Saturday as South Shields returned to Mariners Park.

The fixture against Darlington was not the only attraction on offer, with the junior teams playing on the bottom pitch at Mariners Park before two of the sides played on the main field at half-time of the pre-season friendly.

The club’s Under-10s side also walked out with the senior team ahead of the friendly – a video of that can be found at the bottom of this article.

Head of junior development Martin Urwin said: “It was a cracking day at Mariners Park for the return home of the club.

“A bumper crowd and a great family feel to the occasion was the reward for a huge effort by all in preparing for the big day.

“The junior teams thoroughly enjoyed the experience, with two of our teams grabbing a share of the limelight with a game at half-time.

“Kids smiling, laughing and having fun while playing a big part in the proceedings, we couldn’t have asked for a better day!

“We’re really looking forward to a future where the juniors contribute to producing home grown players for the senior team.”
