The club is pleased to confirm the signing of striker Warren Byrne for the 2015-16 season.

The 32-year-old brings a wealth of Northern League experience to Mariners Park, having been a regular source of goals throughout his career.

Byrne joined Seaham Red Star midway through last season, and he made a major impact as their promotion from Ebac Northern League Division Two was confirmed.

He scored three hat-tricks in his 14 appearances, with an overall tally of 13 goals.

That wasn’t the striker’s first successful promotion campaign, having fired Newton Aycliffe to the Division Two title four years ago with 44 goals.

The former Shildon, Spennymoor Town, Bishop Auckland, West Auckland, Gateshead, Crook Town and Darlington RA player now says he “can’t wait to get started” with the Mariners.

Byrne said: “I’m pleased to have joined South Shields, because I’ve noticed the players the club has brought in so far, and I think they could compete with teams in the First Division.

“I can’t wait to get started, and I’ve managed to score goals everywhere I’ve been, so hopefully I’ll bang a few in for the club.

“I scored 44 goals when we got promoted at Newton Aycliffe in 2011, and scored a fair few at the back end of last season for Seaham as we got promoted.

“Hopefully I can do something similar here, because we’re all looking to get promoted and have a successful season.

“There are clearly big plans for the club, and having looked around the ground, you can see how many changes have already been made in just a few weeks.

“It’s exciting to be a part of, and the first game can’t come around quickly enough.”
