The Football Association has confirmed league fixtures for Steps 3 to 6 of the National League System will be suspended from Thursday, November 5 to Wednesday, December 2.

The announcement is a result of the Government’s new national COVID-19 restrictions, which are subject to Members of Parliament voting on Wednesday.

It has also been confirmed that all Emirates FA Cup first round ties will take place this weekend, meaning South Shields’ trip to Cheltenham Town goes ahead as planned.

In a statement, The FA added that its “aim is to ensure that the 2020-21 season is completed at these levels (Steps 3 to 6)” and that it would “liaise with the relevant leagues and County Football Associations to provide and establish appropriate options to do so if required”.

Further updates on dates for future rounds of the Buildbase FA Trophy are expected in due course, with The FA also stating it is awaiting further clarification for ‘non-elite’ football in England following a debate in the House of Commons on Wednesday.

Tuesday’s game between Gainsborough Trinity and Shields is set to go ahead, but the Mariners’ league fixtures against Atherton Collieries (away), Stalybridge Celtic (away), Witton Albion (home), Grantham Town (away) and Lancaster City (away) fall within the suspension period and are expected to be given new dates.

More information will be provided in due course.

Thank you for the continued support, understanding and patience.
