A place in the final qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup is at stake at South Shields travel to Southport on Tuesday.
The match will kick-off at 7.45pm at the Pure Stadium and a live stream of the match is available from Southport’s website by clicking here.
A victory for the Mariners would see them match their run in the FA Cup from three seasons ago, when they defeated the likes of Darlington and York City before falling at the hands of Hartlepool United.
They know they are in for a difficult encounter with National League North side Southport, though, who knocked them out of the Buildbase FA Trophy last season.
After a 2-2 draw between the teams at 1st Cloud Arena, Southport prevailed 3-1 in the replay to claim their place in the next round.
Shields duo Jason Gilchrist and Nathan Lowe are both former Southport players, although the latter is unavailable for this game because of a knee injury.
Should the scores be level after 90 minutes, the tie will go directly to a penalty shootout, with no replay to be held.
South Shields will face Southport for the third time in less than a year in the Emirates FA Cup next week.
The sides have been drawn against each other in the third qualifying round of the competition, having met in the Buildbase FA Trophy last season.
The tie will take place next Tuesday and is expected to be played behind closed doors, with National League North club Southport classified as playing at ‘elite’ level and therefore not currently permitted spectators.
Live streaming details are awaited and will be clarified in the days leading up to the fixture.
Last season’s FA Trophy tie between the sides was a classic one which was eventually decided over two legs.
The Sandgrounders took an early lead in the first game but Shields battled back in a roaring performance with goals from Gary Brown and Jason Gilchrist.
Gilchrist netted the opener in the replay before Shields went on to lose 3-1.
Nathan Lowe and Gilchrist are former Southport players and will be relishing their return to the Pure Stadium.
The Sandgrounders defeated Morpeth Town in the second qualifying round on Saturday.
Southport came from behind to end South Shields’ involvement in this season’s Buildbase FA Trophy at the first round stage.
The Mariners led after Jason Gilchrist’s early strike against his former club but the National League North side hit back through Bradley Bauress on 17 minutes.
There were chances aplenty at both ends but no further goals until the Sandgrounders struck twice in the final 17 minutes to book a second round trip to competition holders AFC Fylde.
