Carl Finnigan has been named South Shields’ Player of the Month for October.

Finnigan is the third recipient of the award, sponsored by Shaun Matthias, so far this season.

The August award went to Craig Baxter, while September’s prize was won by Barrie Smith.

Finnigan was nominated for October after playing a key role as the Mariners battled in numerous competitions.

He scored twice in the Buildbase FA Trophy win at Scarborough Athletic and again netted against Hartlepool United in the Emirates FA Cup, before scoring in the Durham Challenge Cup victory over Jarrow Roofing and firing in a vital last minute penalty in the FA Trophy against Farsley Celtic.
