South Shields were in blistering form as they made it 17 consecutive wins with a 9-1 thrashing of Tow Law Town on Saturday.

In front of a record Northern League Division Two crowd of 1,412, the Mariners ran riot.

The huge home support was stunned early on as Adam Burnicle fired Tow Law into the lead.

However, Shields romped to victory after that with a hat-trick by David Foley, and further goals from Warren Byrne, Leepaul Scroggins (2), Daryll Hall, Adam Sakr and Julio Arca.

Goals from Warren Byrne and Daryll Hall made it a remarkable 16 wins in a row for South Shields on Tuesday.

The Mariners defeated Chester-le-Street 2-1 at Mariners Park in the League Cup.

The game was watched by a tremendous midweek crowd of 747, who watched Shields take a 68th minute lead and then get pegged back, before a header by Hall won the day.

South Shields’ sensational run of form continued as they made it 14 wins out of 14 with a dramatic FA Vase triumph at Bishop Auckland on Friday.

In front of an extremely large and vocal support, the Mariners took control and were then given a boost when home defender Thomas Bott was sent off.

Ben Riding later headed Shields into the lead, but when Andrew Johnson rattled in a penalty for the hosts, extra-time was looming.

However, up popped Warren Byrne five minutes before the end to tap in and spark scenes of jubilation among the travelling fans.
