The funeral of lifelong South Shields supporter John Hardy is taking place on Wednesday.

The service will be held at South Shields Crematorium, on John Reid Road, at 1pm.

Afterwards, mourners are expected to go to Mariners Park, and all are welcome to go along and pay their respects.

John was an extremely popular Mariners fan who followed the club home and away, and had seen many ups and downs during his decades of support.

He was a regular during many of the darker days in the club’s recent history, including the two years away from Mariners Park at Peterlee, while he also supported the club’s Bingo Lottery game and was a member of the Supporters’ Association.

John was noticeable at matches for his smart appearance and always wore a trilby hat, and he will be missed by all at the club.

Everyone at South Shields FC continues to extend their condolences to John’s family and friends.
