Tuesday was a day of celebration at Mariners Park as South Shields defeated Willington 5-1 before lifting the Ebac Northern League Division Two title.

A crowd of 1,013 saw Shields win in what was their final home game of the season, with goals from Martyn Coleman, Daryll Hall, Warren Byrne, Barrie Smith and Robert Briggs securing the points.

South Shields saw off Stokesley Sports Club on Saturday as they won for the 10th time in 11 league games.

Goals from David Foley, Michael Turner and Martyn Coleman secured the three points for the Mariners.

South Shields made it eight league wins in a row on Tuesday as they defeated Crook Town 5-0 at Mariners Park.

Warren Byrne’s wonder goal handed the Mariners a half-time lead, and they were then rampant in the closing stages, with Michael Turner, Leepaul Scroggins, Stephen Ramsey and John Grey all on the scoresheet.
