A fine strike from Paul Wintrip nine minutes from the end condemned South Shields to a second defeat of the season on Saturday as Easington Colliery claimed all three points.

The newly-promoted side won 2-1 at Mariners Park, with Warren Byrne on the scoresheet for Shields from the penalty spot.

Ryan Noble won the spot-kick on his debut for the Mariners, while fellow new signing Scott Pocklington was on the bench, and Julio Arca watched the game from the sidelines.

Stephen Ramsey’s third goal in as many games steered South Shields to a 1-0 victory in the South Tyneside derby at Hebburn Town on Monday.

Ramsey headed in Robert Briggs’ deep free-kick 19 minutes into the Ebac Northern League Division Two fixture as Shields went top of the league.
