Lewis Teasdale scored a second half winner on Wednesday as South Shields beat Gateshead 3-2 in the Durham Challenge Cup.

Gateshead had twice fought back from a goal down, with an own goal from Matty McCarthy and an individual strike from David Foley having given Shields the lead.

But after Teasdale’s goal on 65 minutes, there was no way back for the visitors as the Mariners earned their place in the semi-final, where they will face Newton Aycliffe.

David Foley turned in a man-of-the-match display on Wednesday as he helped South Shields to a 3-2 win over Gateshead in the Durham Challenge Cup.

Foley scored a superb goal to put the Mariners 2-1 ahead, and was a constant thorn in the visitors’ side as he continued his fine run of form.

Defender Ibby Hassan made his long-awaited home debut for South Shields on Wednesday – and thoroughly enjoyed the ‘great atmosphere’ at Mariners Park.

A crowd of 646 cheered Shields to victory against Gateshead in the Durham Challenge Cup, during which Hassan was in solid form at the back.

In the video above, he discusses his home debut, and talks about how well he has settled in at the club.

He also moves on to look ahead to the return to league action on Saturday, when he feels it is ‘imperative’ the Mariners defeat Whickham.
