Football legend Alan Shearer OBE is set to kick-off the club’s launch weekend on Thursday.

Following the full refurbishment of the upstairs function rooms at the ground – which are available for free hire until the end of December for all occasions – Alan will officially open the new facilities.

The club would like to invite all supporters along for what looks set to be a superb night of entertainment.

The planned Under-15s game between Newcastle United and Sunderland has been postponed due to the weather, but more entertainment is planned for the evening.

That will just be the start of a weekend of entertainment at Mariners Park.

On Friday, there will be live music from popular band King Size Voodoo Traveller, who will take to the stage at 9pm.

The following day, after the first-team have competed away at Consett in the second round of the FA Vase, there will be a terrific show with well-known comedy impressionist Danny Posthill on the night-time at Mariners Park.

Danny shot to fame by reaching the final of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent, impressing judges including Simon Cowell and Alesha Dixon on the ITV1 contest.

Alan Shearer

The club is very much looking forward to welcoming Alan Shearer OBE to Mariners Park.

Alan had a tremendous football career with Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United, as well as with the England national team.

He started his career with Southampton, scoring a hat-trick against Arsenal on his full debut in 1988, becoming the youngest player to score a hat-trick in the top division, aged 17 years and 240 days.

He was sold to Blackburn for £3.6million in 1992, scoring regularly and remarkably helping the club win the Premier League title in 1995.

In 1996, he joined boyhood club Newcastle for a then-world record transfer fee of £15million, and he went on to become a club legend, scoring 206 goals over the next 10 years to end his time on Tyneside as the Magpies’ record goalscorer.

He ended his career as the Premier League’s record goalscorer, too, while he captained England and Newcastle, winning 63 caps for the Three Lions and scoring 30 goals.

Away from the pitch, he has since gone on to be a pundit on BBC highlights show Match of the Day, while he has been heavily involved in charity work with his own foundation, as well as the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
