The club is delighted to announce the signing of Chris Elliott after the goalkeeper gained international clearance.

The 24-year-old was with the Mariners throughout pre-season, making several appearances.

However, he was unavailable to play in competitive matches until his clearance came through, with Chris’ last club having been in Sweden.

He will now compete with Liam Connell and Joss Carmichael for the goalkeeping slot at Mariners Park.

Among Chris’ former clubs are Bradford City, Harrogate Town and Consett, as well as the likes of Bodens BK and IFK Holmsund during a three-year spell in Sweden.

He is now aiming high after putting pen to paper with the Mariners.

The goalkeeper said: “I’m very pleased to have got the international clearance, because I’m here to play and it’s frustrating when you’re not available.

“The team is looking good and strong, and the important thing now is to turn that into results.

“I want to be the best I can be and I want to help the team be the best it can be. I’m just looking forward to what’s ahead.”

Chris is also hoping to win silverware during his time at Mariners Park.

He added: “Wherever I am, I want to win something. I think there’s a good chance here.

“There are lots of good things going on at the club. When you see the ground and the amount of people coming to watch, it’s positive stuff.

“I just want to be the best I can be and help the team be the best it can be. Hopefully we’ll get some trophies along the way.”

Chris is available for Saturday’s game against Consett in Northern League Division One, meaning he could make his Shields debut against a club he knows well.

He said: “When I’ve been going to Sweden for the last few years, in between I’ve played at Consett and enjoyed it.

“I can’t say a bad thing about Consett. It was just time for me to try something a little bit different.

“If my debut is against Consett or whoever, my job is the same. I just look forward to playing.”
