South Shields are hoping to return to competitive action on Tuesday, with the FA Vase tie with Morpeth Town scheduled for a 7.45pm kick-off at Mariners Park.
The game has been postponed several times as a result of the ongoing adverse weather, and the FA has released some guidelines for all clubs with Vase third round ties still to be played.
All efforts will be made to get the game on, but should it be postponed again, the FA has advised that it must then be played on Wednesday or Thursday at Mariners Park. It is anticipated that the likely day would be Thursday.
If FA Vase third round ties are not played by Thursday, the FA has informed clubs that the matches should then be moved to an approved neutral venue, or switched to the home of the away team, and played on Saturday.
Should the game be played on Saturday, it would be settled on the day, with extra-time and penalties if necessary, and no prospect of a replay.
The winners of this tie will host North Shields in round four, and that game is pencilled in for this coming Saturday. That would then be given a new date if the South Shields against Morpeth fixture is not played until then.
There could be a knock-on effect from all of this on other fixtures, with Tuesday’s Durham Challenge Cup tie at Consett already set to be given a new date, while Saturday’s league home clash with Willington would also have to be postponed should the Mariners be in FA Vase action.
Meanwhile, the draw for the fifth round of the FA Vase was made on Monday. The victor of the fourth round tie between South Shields or Morpeth and North Shields will face a trip to Hertfordshire to face Berkhamsted, with that fixture scheduled for Saturday, January 30.
In another fixture update, South Shields’ league trip to Northallerton Town – which was originally set to be played on Saturday, January 9 – has now been rearranged for Wednesday, April 13.
