Striker Aris Lokonga Guerin has accepted a deal to make him South Shields’ fourth summer signing.

The Democratic Republic of Congo-born 24-year-old will join the Mariners from Ebac Northern League Division One side Consett.

He has also had spells with Jarrow Roofing, Sunderland RCA and Newcastle Benfield in the past, and he is looking forward to the challenge ahead at Mariners Park.

Lokonga Guerin said: “The club has given me a good opportunity to show what I can do, and they have lots of ambition.

“It’s a local team to myself, as I used to live in South Shields with my family, and my mum still lives here, so it’s a club that I know.

“I’ve played here before, and there is something good going on, so I just wanted to be a part of it.

“It was a difficult decision to make to drop down from Division One to start with, but that changed once I spoke to the manager.

“I’ve also spoken to the vice-chairman Gary Crutwell, and I know it’s a nice club to be at.

“The ambition of the club for the future matches my own ambition, so that’s why I thought it would be a good thing to do.”

Lokonga Guerin has had trials with the likes of Sunderland, Bristol Rovers and Plymouth Argyle in the past, and was on the books of Port Vale.

He has become the fourth Northern League Division One player to agree a move to Shields this summer, after Leepaul Scroggins, Jonny Wightman and Daryll Hall.

The striker has represented the Mariners before in a pre-season fixture, and manager Jon King is delighted to have secured his signature.

He said: “Aris is an excellent player, and after his contract elapsed at Consett, I jumped at the chance to get him.

“He’s big and strong, and he was once on trial at Sunderland for three months, so that tells you a lot about him.

“He’s a talent, and he’s another lad who’s a winner.

“He has scored plenty of goals in the First Division, so hopefully Aris is going to set the Second Division alight and get us lots of goals.”
