SSFC Academy move to top of league with derby win over Gateshead

Michael Colquhoun’s first half header was enough for the South Shields Academy as they got the better of local rivals Gateshead on Wednesday.

The 1-0 win moved the young Mariners to the top of the National League Under-19 Alliance as they continued their 100% start to the league campaign.

The match was held at Walker Activity Dome, and Colquhoun scored the only goal shortly before the half-hour mark to continue his fine start to the season.

Only a number of superb saves by Gateshead goalkeeper Ross Logan kept the score at 1-0, before they started to fight back in the closing stages.

The Heed were unable to find a way past Shields stopper Dan Lister, though, as the Mariners made it four wins from four.

SSFC ACADEMY: Lister, Kavanagh, Biwer, Ross (Carney 46), Patterson, R Colquhoun (Onarbay 36), McCamley, Lowther, M Colquhoun (Hassanin 60), Guy, Judson (Parker 70).

Goal: M Colquhoun (29).
