South Shields Academy finished runners-up in their debut season in the National League Under-19 Alliance – despite finishing the league campaign unbeaten.
The young Mariners won 15 and drew three of their 18 games, finishing on 48 points.
They scored 89 goals and conceded just eight, but that was not enough to topple Guiseley, who won Division J by a goal difference margin of 13.
The title race eventually boiled down to an exciting clash between Guiseley and Shields on Monday.
Despite battling back from a goal down, a 1-1 draw was not enough for the Mariners as they missed out on the championship on a goal difference.
It still proved to be a tremendous first campaign for the youngsters as they adapted to life in the league in style.
