South Shields vs West Allotment Celtic Preview

By Bob Wray

The Mariners welcome West Allotment Celtic to Peterlee’s Eden Lane ground on Tuesday for an Ebac Northern League fixture, kick off 7.30pm, for what promises to be an entertaining encounter with incentives for both teams.

The visitors are managed by popular former Shields defender Paul Stoneman, who with a wealth of Football League experience in his career – notably with Halifax Town – has revitalised his local club, and they currently stand fourth top in the league table.

A win for the visitors will see them elevated to the second spot, so every incentive exists for them to gain the points and to reach this position, and also for Paul to beat his former club.

For Shields, a win will place the club at a respectable 11th midway point in the league table, and hopefully from where a push on in the second half of the season can be made for a good finish and a higher table position.

Following the welcome victory at Esh Winning on Saturday, hopefully Shields can and will beat Celtic with their best team available, bearing in mind absences and problems with shift employment for several important team members availability where midweek games are concerned.
