South Shields vs Washington Preview

By Daniel Prince

Washington are the visitors to Eden Lane tomorrow (Tuesday) as South Shields look to make it three wins out of three.

Saturday’s 4-3 win over Chester-le-Street followed the 1-0 victory at Whickham, with Jon King’s side looking to end the season on a high.

The Mariners are 16th in Northern League Division Two, but will move up a place with a win by two goals or more tomorrow.

Washington, meanwhile, are 10th, and tomorrow is their last league match of the season.

A point will secure them a ninth-placed finish, but they come into the game on the back of a 6-1 loss at Heaton Stannington on Saturday.

Next Monday, they play Jarrow Roofing in the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup final, so players will be competing for places in the final line-up.

Shields, though, are focused on a positive ending to the season, and drew 1-1 with Washington when they played each other earlier in the season.
