South Shields vs Tow Law Town Preview

By Daniel Prince

Tow Law Town are the visitors to Eden Lane tomorrow (Tuesday) as South Shields look to continue their impressive recent form.

The Mariners thrashed Thornaby 6-0 at Peterlee on Saturday, following on from last Monday’s comeback from two goals down to draw at Hebburn Town.

Manager Jon King is not about to take Tow Law lightly, though, and has urged his side to maintain their high standards in tomorrow’s Ebac Northern League Division Two fixture.

He said: “I’ve said it a lot of times, but anyone can beat anyone in this league.

“I don’t know too much about Tow Law this season, and you can only tell so much by looking at the league table (they are 18th).

“You’re not going to win the game just because they are below you in the table.

“We just need to put in another performance like we know we can do.”

King, meanwhile, still feels there is plenty more to come from his team.

In fact, he felt Shields played better in the early-season draw at Ryhope than in the win over Thornaby.

He added: “I actually think we played better against Ryhope than we did against Thornaby.

“There is still more in the team. Overall, I think the team was a 7 or 8 out of 10 against Thornaby, and they’re hopefully only going to get better.

“The young lads are going to improve. Things are looking bright, but we’re not going to get carried away because football can bite you on the backside.

“We have got some good momentum, but it will count for nothing if we can’t back it up with another good result.

“We have got a really good squad together, and we need to try and get some consistency.”

James Pickering is a doubt for the Tow Law game after being forced off in the first half of the Thornaby thrashing with a groin injury.

Aron Burn and Kyle Houshby, meanwhile, are unavailable, with the pair both on holiday.

The kick-off for tomorrow’s game at Eden Lane is 7.30pm.
