South Shields vs Brandon United

By Bob Wray

The Mariners welcome Brandon United to Peterlee’s Eden Lane ground on Saturday for an Ebac Northern League fixture, with kick off at 3pm.

Shields will be looking to go one better than the 1-1 result in the early season encounter between the sides, and to get back to winning ways after recent reverses at the hands of West Auckland Town in the Durham Challenge Cup this week and Birtley Town two weeks ago.

Disruption through the weather of late has seen four fixtures postponed, but most hopefully the worst of the winter may be behind us, and the players can concentrate on the winning of points to climb the league table to achieve a good top half placing at season’s end.

Six new players are welcomed in Daniel Hall, Elliot Cutts, Michael Young, Paul Greenwell, Ricky Fenwick and Shaun Smith, and all or some may feature in selection or on the bench for Saturday.

Stephen Ramsey has served his one game suspension and is available, and both Barrie Smith and Adam Burnicle have reported injury problems.

The current situation with the impressive Dan Hindmarsh is unclear as he may have by now completed his short term loan from West Auckland, if possible a permanent signing would be welcomed for this useful player to assist strengthen attacking options.
