South Shields pitted against Morpeth Town in Integro Cup

South Shields are to take on North East neighbours Morpeth Town in the first round of the Integro Cup.

The Highwaymen are in their first season as an Evo-Stik League side after winning promotion from the Northern League with a second-placed finish last term.

They will visit Mariners Park on Tuesday, September 18 as both teams begin their Integro Cup bid.

Shields reached the semi-final of the competition last season after a number of impressive displays, with Coalville Town eventually ending their challenge.

The Mariners and Morpeth are well-known to each other having been opponents in the Northern League for a long period.

They last came up against each other in April 2017, when a 1-1 draw at Mariners Park pushed Shields a step closer to the Northern League title.

Nick Gray’s Morpeth have a number of former Shields players in their ranks, with Wayne Phillips, David Carson, Danny Carson and Iulian Petrache all among their squad.
