South Shields 2-0 Bishop Auckland
South Shields claimed a 2-0 win over Bishop Auckland to progress in the Durham Challenge Cup.
The clash remained goalless at half-time despite a number of chances for the Mariners.
On 21 minutes, Stephen Ramsey played in Adam Burnicle, who fired wide.
Eight minutes later, Ramsey looked set to pull the trigger as he connected with Craig Watson’s free-kick, but was ruled offside.
Shields started well after the break, and went close with a Watson free-kick.
On 52 minutes, Bishops forced a good save from Jak Wells, but five minutes later it was Shields who broke the deadlock – Burnicle flicking the ball through the keeper’s legs.
In time added on, Bishops threw everyone forward including their keeper, but the ball was cleared, and after Richard Logan and Burnicle combined to dispossess a defender, the later was left with a simple tap-in to seal the 2-0 success.
