Shields drawn away to Southport in FA Cup
South Shields will face Southport for the third time in less than a year in the Emirates FA Cup next week.
The sides have been drawn against each other in the third qualifying round of the competition, having met in the Buildbase FA Trophy last season.
The tie will take place next Tuesday and is expected to be played behind closed doors, with National League North club Southport classified as playing at ‘elite’ level and therefore not currently permitted spectators.
Live streaming details are awaited and will be clarified in the days leading up to the fixture.
Last season’s FA Trophy tie between the sides was a classic one which was eventually decided over two legs.
The Sandgrounders took an early lead in the first game but Shields battled back in a roaring performance with goals from Gary Brown and Jason Gilchrist.
Gilchrist netted the opener in the replay before Shields went on to lose 3-1.
Nathan Lowe and Gilchrist are former Southport players and will be relishing their return to the Pure Stadium.
The Sandgrounders defeated Morpeth Town in the second qualifying round on Saturday.
