Match Preview: Whitley Bay vs South Shields
South Shields go in search of their first win of the season on Saturday when they make the short trip across the River Tyne to Whitley Bay.
The Mariners are without a victory in three competitive fixtures so far following Tuesday’s unfortunate 2-1 loss at Newton Aycliffe.
However, the second half performance at Aycliffe has increased confidence within the Shields camp that good results are just around the corner.
They will hope that that starts at Hillheads against a Whitley Bay side which has won both of its league matches so far, scoring eight goals in the process.
Kick-off is at 3pm, with Shields hoping to welcome back David Palmer after he returned from holiday and scored three times in two games for the reserves.
The post code of the ground is NE25 8HR, while places on supporters’ transport to the game are available by calling 0191 454 7800. It costs £7 for those in the SSFC Members’ Club, and £10 for non-members, and will depart Mariners Park at 1.30pm.
Shields manager Jon King says the team will be going into Saturday’s game with a “positive frame of mind”.
He said: “It was a bitter pill to swallow to lose a game like that after we had dominated the second half.
“We’re all looking forward to going to Whitley Bay, though.
“It’s a derby game, and I’m looking forward to going back to what is one of my old clubs.
“We’ll go there with a positive frame of mind.
“The lads were really upset after Tuesday’s game, but there were plenty of positives to take and hopefully we’ll get a better result this time.”
