Preview: South Shields vs Morpeth Town (at Consett)
Hopes are high that the FA Vase tie between South Shields and Morpeth Town will finally be played on Tuesday.
The match has been postponed on numerous occasions since it was first scheduled for December 12.
The latest call-off came on Friday, when Consett’s 3G surface failed a pitch inspection after heavy snowfall.
No snow has fallen since, though, and milder temperatures on Tuesday morning in Consett have raised hopes that the game will be on. Follow the club’s Twitter and Facebook pages, as well as website, for further updates.
Although Shields have not played competitively since December 19, they have got in some match practice over the last fortnight with friendly wins over West Allotment Celtic and Bedlington Terriers.
First-team coach Mark Scott feels they could not be more prepared for a return to competitive action against Ebac Northern League Division One’s second-placed side.
He said: “It’s vital really that we get games in. It was good to get 90 minutes in last week and again on Saturday.
“With this run without a competitive game rolling on for so long now, training probably isn’t enough any more. The games have done the lads the world of good.
“The lads are chomping at the bit for a game. With the amount of times this one has been arranged and called off, it has been very frustrating.
“We’ve just got to crack on and be as ready as we can when the game comes along.
“With the amount of training we’ve done, and the matches we’ve had, we’re probably going to be as well-prepared as we could be.”
Kick-off at Consett’s Belle View, which has a postcode of DH8 7BF, is at 7.45pm. Shields will be without the injured Lewis Galpin, as well as the ineligible Ibby Hassan and John Grey.
Meanwhile, anyone who booked a place on the supporters’ coach to Consett on Friday, and can no longer make it on Tuesday, is asked to call 0191 454 7800.
