Ellie White has said that the “hard work paid off” for South Shields Women after they picked up their third successive win at the weekend.
The lasses rounded off a perfect week with a 2-0 win against Harrogate Town AFC Women, their second win against the side in a matter of eight days.
Those wins were sandwiched between a 2-0 win at 1st Cloud Arena versus Sunderland West End Ladies - White says that the mood in the camp is positive following a very successful spell.
“Yeah, everyone was happy to get another win on Sunday to pick up nine points from our three games last week!” she said.
It was always going to be a different challenge against Harrogate Town, given the two teams had met so recently, but White says that the team managed to use that familiarity with the opposition to their advantage.
She continued: “Harrogate are a difficult team to break down with their high line but we managed to get the win we deserved.
“After playing them at their stadium, we knew what they’d be all about so we tried to carry that into the game at home and the hard work paid off!”
There is definitely a sense that things are beginning to come together for the team, who had struggled for form during the early stages of 2025, so it is imaginably a relief to see things work at last.
White added: “On the pitch it’s starting to feel like everything is coming together, linking the play between all three thirds and all the girls can see that we’re starting to all come together and play some good football as well as pick up results, which is great.
“Hopefully we can keep this momentum and carry it into our last three games of the season.”
Next up is an exciting clash against Spennymoor Town Ladies, who the team haven’t played since a 4-1 win on the opening day of the NERWFL Premier Division season.
Shields have an outside chance of finishing in third place if they win all of their remaining games, but it will be no easy task given the teams around them find themselves in a stronger position at this stage.
She finished: “With a massive game against Spennymoor coming up, all the girls are excited to get on the pitch and show what we’re about, and hopefully pick up an important win!”
