White: "It would mean the world to me" if SSFC Women reach cup final

"It would mean the world" to Ellie White and South Shields Women if they were to reach the DCFA Women’s Cup final this Sunday.

The Mariners face stern opposition in Chester-le-Street Town Ladies, who they beat in the league just over a fortnight ago, but the Cestrians will imaginably be up for another fight.

Shields will be on home turf this time and the team needs as much support from the crowd as possible.

“Going into the semi-final is massive for us and we will need all the support we can get,” White said.

“We all know it’s going to be a hard game but we are going into the game strong-minded and prepared, after beating them a few weeks ago.

“We know what they’re all about and I’m sure we’ll be focusing in training and analysis to make sure we’re all ready for Sunday.”

The lasses weren’t in action last week after Hull United forfeited the game, meaning Shields claimed all three points.

White agrees that it was a “slightly disappointing” outcome, after making a point during the week that the team wanted to make up for November’s 1-1 draw against them at Haworth Park.

She continued: “With our game being cancelled against Hull, it was slightly disappointing after dropping points away to them.

“We were all really prepared for the game on Sunday as last week's training has been really good and sharp.”

Regardless, Sunday could pose the best chance for the team to push for some silverware this season, but the lasses will need to be firing on all cylinders to get over the line.

After a season of great change, as well as many highs and lows at the club, it would mean a lot to make a cup final and White and the rest of the squad are incredibly determined to get there.

She finished: “We’re all absolutely buzzing for the game on Sunday and it would mean the world to me and the girls to get one step closer to lifting some silverware, as we’ve all been working so hard.”

Kick-off at Harton Welfare (NE34 0NA) is at 1:30pm this Sunday, February 16th - entry is free!
