South Shields Women embark on their third successive away trip this Sunday when they take on Consett Ladies at Belle View Stadium (2pm kick-off).
It has been a good start to pre-season for Alex Miller’s side, who won their last two friendlies against Washington FC Women and Wallsend BC Women Reserves.
Consett finished sixth in last season’s NERWFL Northern Division, with 32 points to their name.
Ex-Mariner Becca Emery, who spent the 2023/24 campaign with Shields, re-signed for The Steelers over the summer and she could be a familiar face this weekend if she is involved.
Alex’s thoughts
Head coach Alex Miller took a lot of positives from Sunday’s win and many things stood out to her, when asked about what things impressed her about the performance.
She explained: “From playing it out through their back four, we managed to get it back and comfortably gained possession within a matter of 10 seconds, at most.
“We stuck to the game plan and we really were about getting that press right because it’s what we worked on in training during the week.
“I was also really impressed with the amount of chances that we actually made. We didn’t manage to put a lot of them away but it’s a real positive to know that we are able to create those chances.”
