Townsend: First SSFC Women goal "one I'll remember!"

It was a moment to remember for Ashley Townsend, who scored her first goal for South Shields Women over the weekend.

She headed in Josie Foster’s cross to make it 3-2 against Bradford City AFC Women, which completed an unexpected comeback after being 2-0 down during the first-half.

Although the game finished 3-3, there can be no denying it was a significant occasion.

She said: “It’s always such a great feeling to score, but it was just so fun to get that first goal with SSFC and then to see the excitement that my teammates had for me… very surreal and one I’ll remember!”

Townsend swapped the United States for life in the North East of England last month, through the newly-launched SSFC Women’s International Academy programme.

“It’s obviously been a huge adjustment to move across the world,” she suggested, “as it comes with various challenges, but everyone in the club - the staff, the first team, the academy, and even just the North East in general, are just so, so kind and welcoming.

“It’s really starting to feel like a family and I’m excited to continue to build those relationships on and off the pitch.”

One thing which has become apparent during her brief time with the first team so far, is their determination and resilience when confronted with setbacks.

She continued: “I think the belief and that grit to fight until the final whistle is huge.

“I’ve only been with the club for a short time and that’s something that has really impressed me - our team never gives up!

“We fight for each other until that last whistle blows and we’ve been able to secure some great results because of it.”

This Sunday could be another memorable day for her, as she could make an appearance at 1st Cloud Arena in the Women’s FA Cup, against FC United of Manchester Women.

Townsend finished: “I’m so excited for the FA Cup!

“It’s something I’ve never been able to experience and something that I’ve followed back in the States.

“Now to be a part of it and get to play at 1st Cloud, I couldn’t be more excited!”

Kick-off at 1st Cloud Arena (NE32 3UP) is at 2pm this Sunday, October 13th. Entry is £3 for adults and free for U12s.

I was bored one evening and decided to check out some online casinos. That’s when I found jackpot jill vip. It’s got a great range of games, and the interface is super easy to navigate. Plus, there are a lot of bonuses, especially for those of us in Australia, which I really appreciated. The welcome bonus alone makes it worth signing up, and they keep offering different promotions every now and then.
