South Shields Women aim to replicate September’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup victory over Ponteland United Women this Sunday (2:30pm kick-off).
The two teams met in the second qualifying round and Shields overcame the newly-promoted side 3-1 with goals by Eve Gatens, Erin Naylor and Sophie Greener.
Last week’s game against Bradford City AFC Women was postponed due to the poor weather, so it should be the team’s first test of the new year.
The club announced earlier in the week that Alex Miller and Sophie Clough have been named co-head coaches and this Sunday’s clash would be the first with these new changes in effect.
Ponteland sit second in the NERWFL Premier Division table with 18 points after 12 games while Shields are eyeing up the top spots, having amassed 12 points over just seven matches.
Alex and Sophie’s thoughts
Sophie G’s thoughts
Sophie Greener spoke to us this week to help preview Sunday’s game and after almost a month without one, needless to say she will be ready to go at the weekend.
“It’ll be nice to be back playing with the girls after the break,” she said, “it feels like it’s been forever!
“Last time out against Pont was an exciting game. I can only imagine Sunday will be the same.”
Information for supporters
