SSFC Women's Greener says her "hard work in training has paid off"

Star player Sophie Greener said her “hard working in training has paid off” after she was awarded the player of the match accolade for her heroics on Sunday.

The forward stood out as she netted twice in the 6-2 win over Consett Ladies, which marked the team’s third win from three friendlies and kept the side's perfect run going.

She suggested that her performance was down to the work she was putting in during the week at training, where she was singled out for praise because of her great form.

She said: “I thought my performance today was a lot better than in previous games, obviously hard work in training has paid off - it always feels good to be on the scoresheet too.”

It helps to have a cohesive and united dressing room and Greener firmly believes that is a reason why she has been playing so well recently.

“The girls are amazing on and off the pitch, always backing you and getting behind you,” she added.

“It does help you a lot and it definitely gets the best out of you!”

Aside from her two strikes, there were other mentionable screamers by Eve Gatens (who scored directly from a corner), Olivia Mole to get her first goal in claret and blue and a headed effort by Jaz Elliott-Wood.

“I thought things went really well today, everyone did what they needed to and the scoreline explained how well we played,” Greener continued.

After three consecutive away fixtures, the side return to home action on Sunday when they take on Whitehaven AFC Ladies and Greener for one is looking forward to it.

She said: “It will be good to finally be playing at home and getting our supporters behind us, it helps a lot.

“I’ve enjoyed the past few weeks; it’s good to finally be back out on the pitch and pre-season has been very positive for the team as a whole.”

Keep an eye out on the club’s social media channels this week for more insight, including training reels and previews ahead of The Mariners’ final scheduled pre-season test.

This is one of the best sports matches I have ever watched. Geometry Dash Scratch is very impressive with the series of consecutive goals in the first half. Their achievements were well worth the effort they put in, the days of hard work regardless of the weather, the pain and the determination to never give up. For me, this was a great performance, from start to finish.
