SSFC Women host table-topping Ponteland United this weekend

Writer: Nathan BellNathan Bell

South Shields Women host table-topping Ponteland United Women this Sunday (2pm kick-off).

The Mariners suffered defeat at Harton Welfare last time out in the DCFA Women’s Cup, but the lasses are now looking ahead to 10 key fixtures coming up in the NERWFL Premier Division.

Shields sit fifth in the table, with 18 points to their name, while Ponteland have played 16 games and currently have 33 points on the board, sitting pretty in first place by seven points.

Chester-le-Street Town Ladies are hot on their heels, however, with five games in hand over the league leaders at this stage of the campaign.

A win would keep Alex Miller and Sophie Clough’s side in fifth place, while a poor result might see them drop down to sixth if Spennymoor Town Ladies defeat Wallsend BC Women.

Josie’s thoughts

Defender Josie Foster spoke to us this week to look ahead to our latest challenge, with it being a good time, in her view, to make up for any mistakes the team made when the two teams met last month.

She said: “We’re disappointed about the result at the weekend but we’re all excited to turn our focus back to the league and Ponteland.

“We’ve worked hard in analysis and training and focused on mistakes made during the previous encounter with them.

“We’re feeling super positive and raring to go!”
