South Shields Women host Halifax FC Women in the first round proper of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup at 1st Cloud Arena on Sunday (2pm kick-off).
The Mariners reached this stage by knocking out fellow fifth-tier sides Ponteland United Women (3-1 away) and FC United of Manchester Women (3-1 at home), and they will be coming up against a Halifax side who are well-accustomed to the third tier.
Although the visitors head into the tie bottom of the FAWNL Northern Premier Division, with one point to their name so far, they still represent a strong challenge to contend with.
Shields, meanwhile, hope to reach the second round proper for the first time in their history.
Jaz and Nat’s thoughts
Players Jaz Elliott-Wood and Natalie May had a message to say to the fans before Sunday.
“Just get yourselves along,” Elliott-Wood said.
“We’re fighters, we’ll never give up and you will expect a battle, and I think it will be a good game.
“If you’ve got nothing to do, just come along!”
May added: “I think, again, it makes a massive difference having the crowd there and [it] just pushes us on a little bit.
“We’d really appreciate your support!”
Mon's thoughts
Monica Innes spoke to us this week to preview the upcoming cup clash.
“We are all up for the game on Sunday - from the players to the coaching staff, we all know we’ve got it in us to have a good run in the FA Cup.
“The energy in the squad is good, we all feel together and it’s when we feel like this, that we play our best football.
“We’ll be bouncing back from the result on Sunday in full force, ready to get into the draw again and keep the run going.
“It’s a home game, back at 1st Cloud where we all love to play, and with the hard work, togetherness and support we have, I have no doubt we’ll be walking off the pitch on Sunday back into the draw.”
