SSFC Women head to Harrogate

South Shields Women take on Harrogate Town at Rossett Sports Centre this Sunday in the first of a double-header against the Sulphurites (2pm kick-off).

Matt Gatiss’ Mariners travel to North Yorkshire hoping for three points in what will be their first match in two weeks.

The hosts themselves didn’t play due to the inclement conditions last weekend, with their most recent game coming a fortnight ago when they crashed out of the Women’s FA Cup against Wigan Athletic.

Harrogate are winless in the league this season, with their only point so far coming in a 2-2 draw against Alnwick Town in September.

Jade Dryden got the deciding goal in last season’s equivalent tie, as Shields kicked their season off with a 1-0 victory.

Matt’s thoughts

The team’s third Yorkshire trip in the space of a month will offer a fresh dynamic for the lasses to overcome, according to head coach Gatiss.

“We've got another Yorkshire away day coming up and it'll be a different challenge, like Hull United and Bradford City both were,” he said.

“We've got a couple of players back for this game which is always good, and we've been working hard in training honing our style further and hopefully this weekend's game will be another opportunity to express that and continue our unbeaten run.”

Shields are undefeated so far in the NERWFL Premier Division, with four wins and two draws in six games.
