South Shields Women are back on the road this Sunday to face fourth-placed Alnwick Town Ladies in the NERWFL Premier Division (2pm kick-off).
It has been a difficult start to 2025 for the lasses - three defeats and one win among a host of postponements have meant the team hasn't been able to build some well-needed momentum.
This weekend’s challenge will prove to be no easy task, with Alnwick sitting six points ahead of sixth-placed Shields at this stage, although they have played three more games than the Mariners.
The two sides haven’t met so far this season, but last season brought up some exciting clashes.
Shields claimed the double in the league, but Alnwick were victorious in the second qualifying round of the Women’s FA Cup.
Alex’s thoughts
Annece’s thoughts
Annece Legg spoke to us this week to help preview our trip to Alnwick - she says the team is motivated for the challenge ahead of them.
She said: “Everyone is up for the battle against Alnwick this weekend.
“We are ready to perform well and hopefully get a win, especially after our two previous results which left us disappointed.
“We’ve had some very good training sessions, so we are very motivated to put things right to achieve the results we want.
“It should be a good game!”
