SSFC Women duo reflect on Wallsend BC Women Reserves win

We caught up with two of South Shields Women’s weekend goalscorers, Jaz Elliott-Wood and Eve Gatens, to reflect on and discuss the 3-0 win against Wallsend BC Women Reserves.

Read below to find out their answers and remind yourselves of the action by watching the match highlights above!

Q: How do you reflect on your individual performances out there on Sunday?

Jaz: “If I’m honest, I don’t think it was my best game: first-half I wasn’t really getting the ball as much as I'd like but when I moved to CB, I felt like I could really control the tempo of the game and I felt a lot more comfortable."

Eve: “I think I played well individually; slightly frustrating when you get into good positions and can’t finish it off in the final third but was happy I managed to get into the scoresheet after having a few good chances.

“I was happy with my assist too for Jaz when taking the corner, and [I] try my best to create chances as much as possible.”

Q: And as a team, how do you think things went for the lasses?

Jaz: “Overall as a team it was okay - it was only our second game and there are a lot of new things this season, whether that’s players, coaches or the way we try and play.

“It takes getting used to and it’s slowly coming together."

Eve: “The first two games we’ve played have been good to get minutes into everyone’s legs and also good to try new formations and player positions to see what works best for us as a team.

“I think we’ve all enjoyed pre pre-season so far and [we’re] hoping to continue that run of form when the season starts.”

Q: The team has created lots of chances over these past two games. That in itself must be really encouraging for you to see?

Jaz: “We are working really hard in training and it’s starting to show; the amount of chances we create is scary and maybe on another day we take those chances."

Eve: “We created plenty of chances but their keeper was having the game of her life and pulled off some really important saves.

“We were determined to put those chances away and [the] second-half was a much better performance for us in terms of scoring goals.

“With the team we have, it’s a really strong attacking threat and we always look like we can score at some point in the game.”

Q: Consett Ladies this Sunday might prove to be our toughest pre-season test yet. How much are you looking forward to testing yourselves out against them?

Jaz: “It’ll be a very competitive game as they are a good side, but I’m excited to play against them to hopefully get more minutes in the legs and test ourselves against another good side.”

Eve: “Consett will be a good test for us and will help challenge us but hopefully we can show our quality in the game and still come away with a positive result.

“It’ll be another good opportunity to give everyone valuable minutes and keep team morale high.”
