SSFC Women back to 1st Cloud to take on Barnsley

South Shields Women take on Barnsley this Sunday at 1st Cloud Arena hoping to extend their unbeaten league start (2pm kick-off).

The Mariners will be looking to build on last week’s valiant 1-1 draw against Bradford City, which saw the lasses come within minutes of a hard-worked win. Newly-promoted Barnsley travel to South Shields sitting in fifth place, off the back of a 3-2 away win against Redcar Town which included a brace by their top goalscorer, Madison Foye. A win on Sunday could take Shields top if results go their way, and a strong result would help keep them in the early NERWFL Premier Division promotion mix.

Matt’s thoughts Shields head coach Matt Gatiss said: "Barnsley have had a good start to the season, and they’ll be coming up here trying to make a point. “It’s one where we don’t really know too much about them with them coming up, but again it’s at our place - 1st Cloud. “It’ll be ‘first 10-15 seeing what they’re about’, adapting to it if we need to but hopefully, we’ll impose our style on them. “The key thing from last week was our resilience which I talked about at length, and we are hoping to bring that to all games now. “It’s a side of the team they’ve not had to show but there’ll be other times this year where we have to dig down a little bit. “On Sunday we’ll go all cylinders. We’ve got a couple of players back, and hopefully the weather’s kind in the next few days and we can get a big crowd down.”
