South Shields FC join forces with The Lakeside Inn in tasty double act

Updated: Sep 27, 2022

South Shields FC has joined forces with The Lakeside Inn in an exciting partnership which is set to provide a new catering experience for supporters and members of the community.

The Lakeside, which is renowned for the popularity and quality of its food, is to be responsible for the running of the kitchen in the new main stand at 1st Cloud Arena.

The catering team from the well-liked pub, which is based at East Fellgate Farm,

Wardley, will also provide food for the club’s hospitality guests in the clubhouse lounges and executive boxes on matchdays, and provide a new matchday menu for all of the outdoor kiosks.

The Lakeside’s acclaimed Sunday lunches will also be coming to 1st Cloud Arena, with the delicious offerings to be served for the first time on Sunday, July 17th.

Many of the club’s hospitality guests have already sampled The Lakeside’s goods, with the team having catered for them four times last season.

Carl Mowatt, manager of The Lakeside Inn, told the Shields Gazette: “Myself and the team at The Lakeside are so excited and delighted to be supporting our local club, and I admire how much Geoff Thompson and his team have done for the borough by putting South Shields as a football club back on the map and hope to share more success next season.

“We are growing as a business and are open seven days a week offering breakfasts, lunch and dinner with two function rooms available to hire for private occasions.”

South Shields FC chairman Geoff Thompson said: “We’ve had a relationship with The Lakeside for some time and we recently went out on tender with the new season approaching and our new stand opening and were delighted they won the tender and have been working together over the last few weeks to get everything ready for the new campaign.

“We’ve got our first pre-season friendly at home on the 16th and it’s a very exciting time for both them and us.”

The new arrangement brings to an end the club’s previous partnership with Sam’s Deli, which provided an outstanding service since taking over the Sunday lunch service at 1st Cloud Arena in September 2021 and various other catering offerings.

We would like to thank all those involved with Sam’s Deli for their support and efforts in that time.

As a result of the change, there will be no Sunday lunch service at the ground on July 10th, but it will return under the management of The Lakeside Inn the following week. The club is greatly enthused by this bolstered partnership and very much looks forward to working with The Lakeside moving forwards.

More details on the Sunday lunch service and much more besides will be announced in due course.
