Phil Coxill is to take on the role of the club’s safety officer.
A supporter of SSFC for many years, Phil has volunteered as an important part of the matchday safety team over recent seasons.
His new position will see the club’s matchday operations strengthened as part of its continued commitment to ensure all visitors to 1st Cloud Arena have an enjoyable and safe experience.
Phil will work closely on safety procedures with the club’s management team and will be the person with overall responsibility for matchday security at the ground.
Security will continue to be provided by MBS Security Ltd, with Phil to liaise closely with their security manager. The club’s team of volunteer stewards to report directly to MBS.
Phil brings a huge amount of experience to the role, having spent three years as a security manager at a shopping centre and three years as head of security at a major hospital in London.
He was also head of security at Durham University for 12 years, during which time he ensured the safety of several major events, including a visit from the Queen, Sir Bobby Robson’s memorial service and various visits from government officials.
Phil’s responsibilities now include ensuring all aspects of operational safety, health and safety and fire policies at SSFC are relevant and updated as required.
He is also tasked with making sure the club provides a safe environment for spectators and delivering leadership on matchdays for all aspects of safety, including liaising with opposing clubs and other organisations, including the emergency services and local authorities.
This is another step to demonstrate the club’s determination to ensure the matchday experience of all supporters is continually improved.
We look forward to welcoming all supporters back in pre-season ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
