South Shields Women’s Zoe Norton has said that things are “working in our favour” following Wednesday night’s win under the floodlights.
The lasses defeated Sunderland West End Ladies 2-0 at 1st Cloud Arena to pick up their second consecutive win, in this all-important end of season run-in.
Norton spoke after the game about how she, as well as her teammates, found the experience.
“It’s always great to play under the lights, especially at 1st Cloud, so to get the three points we deserved felt amazing,” she said.
After a difficult start to 2025, it feels like the team’s luck has turned over this past week, with a well-earned victory against Harrogate Town AFC Women last Saturday, as well as Wednesday’s positive result.
She continued: “Yeah, it's definitely been a boost for the girls to get that final piece of play right resulting in goals.
“We’ve been working hard week in and week out at training and to feel like that is paying off is a great feeling, especially in restoring our confidence as a team.”
The fixtures show no signs of stopping just yet, with another game against Harrogate Town coming up this Sunday, but the team can take their positive momentum and carry it forward, if all goes to plan.
Norton added: “Although playing twice a week isn’t easy along with training, I do think it’s really helped to keep up our momentum and the positive atmosphere and is definitely working in our favour, as of now.”
Shields defeated Harrogate Town 3-0 at The Exercise Stadium last Saturday, with goals by Jen Wootten, Natalie May and Eve Gatens securing the game during a late second-half onslaught.
She finished: “It’ll be good to play Harrogate at home on Sunday after just having them at their place; hopefully we can put on a show for our own fans as we did for theirs and come out with the result.”
Kick-off at Harton Welfare (NE34 0NA) for our match against Harrogate Town AFC Women is at 2pm this Sunday, April 6th. Entry is free for what will be the lasses’ penultimate home game of the season!
