Miller: "Everything went to plan" for SSFC Women following 11-0 win

South Shields Women head coach Alex Miller paid tribute to her side, following their emphatic 11-0 win against Whitehaven AFC Ladies on Sunday. 

“Everything went to plan!” she said.

“It’s exactly what we hoped would happen today - we didn’t know too much about Whitehaven heading into the game.

“They put on their show and to be fair to them, they showed some spells of football and it was a good challenge for us to have to overcome.

“But the lasses were just ruthless throughout the game.

“Any chance they were getting, they were taking it, backing each other up, going in for the follow-ups, which was something that we’ve highlighted massively in training over the last couple of weeks.

“Ant’s [Antony Lowerson] done a load of work with the lasses, making sure they know exactly what they need to do and clearly you can tell by the performances that it’s all paying off.

“That extra goal shooting practice as well has definitely paid off!” 

Miller reserved some special praise for her pick of the bunch when it came to the goals scored.

“Sophie Greener with the nice flick and the volley, becoming a bit of a trademark with her, so good to see that.

“It was great to see young Eva [McDonald] on the scoresheet as well. She nearly grabbed another one, she’s worked very hard and thoroughly deserves it.

“Annece [Legg], Jaz [Elliott-Wood], Jen [Wootten], there’s so many that really do deserve it.

“Lovely to see Ellie [White] back on the pitch too and grabbing a goal and having some nice link-up play with Eve [Gatens] as well to create some.”

That type of performance might encourage onlookers to revisit in a fortnight when the NERWFL Premier Division season kicks off, and Miller is hoping any potential new supporters can stick around.

“Hopefully it will encourage a few more of them to come down when the season starts,” she added.

“We really, really appreciate the support. It does mean a lot for the lasses so if it can be more and more each week, it would really, really help us on the pitch so thank you very much for coming along!”
