McMahon: SSFC Women just need "one win" to get back on track amid rough patch

Becki McMahon has urged her South Shields Women teammates to find some consistency ahead of the end of season run-in.

A defeat against high-flying Bradford City AFC Women last time out meant that it was a fifth defeat in six games played for the Mariners - the two exceptions being a 2-1 win against Chester-le-Street Town Ladies, and a walkover win against Hull United Women.

When times are tough, it is important to stick together as a team, and the skipper has suggested that better things could just be around the corner.

“Not the start we wanted or expected in 2025, of course,” she said.

“Especially after such a good run at the start of the season and after the Christmas break, we’ve not been able to be consistent with our performances and get the momentum going again.

“But we know all it takes is one win to build the confidence and get back on track!”

A lot of work has taken place behind the scenes to push the team forward and that isn’t being lost on the players, who according to McMahon are more “determined” than ever to turn things around.

She added: “We have been working hard in training, especially on the key areas that have needed improvement recently.

“It’s definitely motivating when we’re seeing the positive impact it’s having in training, but we need to try and put that into games more consistently now.

“We know we’re not performing at the level we’re capable of and that’s frustrating for everyone.

“To be fair we’ve had a tough run of games against some top teams, but we consider ourselves one of the best in the league as well.

“We’re determined to work hard, push through this period, and get back to playing the way we know we can.”

Finally, she had a message for the fans, with just one month of fixtures left to be played.

“The past few weeks have been tough and we know we’re in a difficult spell,” she ended.

“First and foremost, we want to thank our fans for their incredible support week in and week out.

“It never goes unnoticed. We have no doubt that we’ll come back stronger than ever and give you all something to cheer about!”

The lasses travel to York RI Ladies this Sunday - full details will be confirmed closer to matchday.
