Match Preview: South Shields FC vs Scarborough Athletic

Writer's picture: Sam JonesSam Jones

The Mariners welcome Scarborough Athletic to the 1st Cloud Arena for their second meeting of the 24/25 National League North Campaign.

The reverse fixture saw The Mariners come away with three points in a 2-1 victory against the Seadogs, with goals coming from Paul Blackett and Kyle Crossley.

Seadogs currently sit 15th in the NLN with 33 points and most recently were on the end of defeat against Chorley in a 3-2 defeat at home.

Elliott Dickman's Mariners currently sit 14th in the NLN having been recently defeated by Scunthorpe United at the Attis Arena in a match that ended 2-1.

Elliott's Thoughts

"It was good getting back playing in what was always going to be a tough game against Scunthorpe United. Unfortunately, we came out on the wrong side of the result, however, the game was very tight and in our opinion a draw would have been a fair result.

When you go through several weeks without games there is always that possibility of the players lacking match practice. We did not feel this going into the game, as well as during it. The players looked excellent physically and showed a desire to push hard to the end to try and get a result. This was very pleasing to see, as it backs up that our training model works, and the players were, as always, fully prepared for the game.

As we are moving into a very important stage of the season, we are fully focused for the intense schedule that is approaching. The main area of improvement we have been working on is minimising individual errors. If we can do this, we know that as a team, we can win games of football.

As always, please continue to get behind our players and the team and we hope we can make today’s game an exciting one for you and one that we can all enjoy."
