We are delighted to announce the appointment of Jimmy Holmes as our Head of Player Recruitment.

Jimmy brings a wealth of experience to the role. Having an extensive player database & numerous contacts in the game at all levels, Jimmy will head up our Recruitment Department.

We are pleased to welcome him to the club.

"After speaking to Sporting Director Lee Picton, Club Owner / Chairman Geoff Thompson and Manager Elliott Dickman I soon realised that this is a club that's looking to go in the right direction with their ambitions matching my own.

South Shields is a club with passionate fans, They are an established full-time football club in the National League system.

The team has fallen short over the past 2 seasons but moving forward we aim to be pushing at the right end of the table.

I will concentrate on individual player & position Recruitment identifying the right players that fit with what the club & manager are looking for.

I've followed the journey that the club has been on and now the opportunity to play a part in the future is something that I am looking forward to".

Jimmy started off in Recruitment at Manchester City working within the academy, After a few years at City the opportunity to join league 2 club Morecambe came along where he spent 4 years.

It was whilst at Morecambe Jimmy was approached by newly formed Macclesfield FC.

It was at Macclesfield FC where Jimmy enjoyed 2 years with the club winning 2 league titles.

"We signed some fantastic players most of whom are still there today. We managed to sell players as well and help them move up the football pyramid which is always great to see. It's a fantastic club with a very good owner who I wish nothing but the best for".

In December 2023 Jimmy joined Bury FC.

"I went into Bury FC to assess the squad that had already been assembled. Recruitment wise the club wanted to prepare for the following season. That gave me time to identify players that would fit the club moving forward. They now have a recruitment model & an exciting squad of players which I am proud to have played my part in bringing them to the club. Players that I believe will allow them to push on and move up through the leagues just like what we had achieved at my previous clubs.

Elliott Dickman went on to say:

"We are thrilled and delighted that Jimmy Holmes has agreed to join us.

Jimmy has extensive knowledge of players at various levels, as well as many contacts within the game.

The work he has done at various clubs, but especially Macclesfield and Bury, speaks for itself.

We are really excited to start working together to help the Club continue to develop and improve with our recruitment of players.

Welcome to the Club Jimmy."

Lee Picton said:

"I’ve known Jimmy for a considerable period of time now and what has always shone through is his unbelievably vast knowledge of players across various levels, a dedication to his craft, along with his proven track record of unearthing young, high level talent that has gone on to bigger and better things in the game.

I truly believe he is a fantastic fit for where we are right now as a club and where we intend to be moving forwards.

We are absolutely delighted to welcome him to our team here at South Shields FC."

Geoff Thompson said:

“I am personally delighted with the appointment of Jimmy, and see this as a significant step with our strive to enhance and build a sustainable future.

Jimmy’s vision and understanding of the game, with his track record at Bury, Macclesfield, Morecambe and Manchester City speaks volumes, and is exactly what the club needs to support Elliott and the team.

His proven ability to identify, develop and recruit talent, alongside his strategic approach to the game, makes him the ideal candidate to lead our recruitment drive for the future of our club.

This appointment hopefully demonstrates to fans our ambition and I hope they continue to back the Club.

We need to continue to drive season ticket and sponsorship revenues to fund this ambition."
